THE City Government of Davao has earmarked P1.7 million budget for the holding of the annual Kadayawan Sports Festival next month.

In celebration of the 29th Kadayawan Festival, these sports activities are done as part of Davao City's Comprehensive Sports Development Program, otherwise known as Mayor Duterte Game Plan.

It aims to promote sports in building strong community and shaping the core values of teamwork, friendship, discipline, honesty, commitment, fair play, and respect for others despite of cultural diversity and disability.

This year's sportsfest will feature arnis, aero marathon, athletics, collegiate and commercial basketball, billiards, bodybuilding, basketball (commercial), two duckpin bowling events, two chess events, cycling, dama, football, futsal, judo, karatedo, kayaking, motocross, rugby football, softball, swimming, table tennis, and volleyball.

SDD-CMO officer-in-charge William "Butch" Ramirez hopes these sports activities will encourage school-based and out-of-school youths to engage in a healthy and vibrant competition.

The sportsfest will kick off first week of August. (KRP)
