THE Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC), Jose Maria College (JMC), San Isidro Elementary School, and Davao Central College will defend their titles as the annual Emcor Inter-SChool Chess Team Tournament unfurls tomorrow, Saturday, at the Emcor Bldg. along J.P. Laurel Avenue.

National master (NM) and tournament director Prospero "Bebot" Cruz bared this during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at NCCC Mall B3 Center yesterday.

A total of 29 teams confirmed their participation so far, 14 in High School and 15 in elementary division.

"Pwede man muapil ang dili invited na schools as long as mu-inquire lang sila sa office for their participation ug voluntary silang muregister (Schools that were not invited can still participate as long as they voluntarily register their schools at their office)," Cruz said.

The said chess tournament has no registration fee and most participants are from public and private schools in Davao.

The seven-round Swiss System format offers trophies to winning school teams and medals to individual players. Merchandise from sponsors will also be awarded to the winners.

Each team will be composed of two boys and two girls.

The Inter-School Chess Tournament is sponsored by Emcor. (KRP)
