Tabudlong's perfect score lifts DWA win

ZSUZSA Grace Tabudlong made perfect seven points to lift Davao Wisdom Academy's (DWA) High School girls title win at the close of the 5TH JVR Inter- School Chess Team Championship held at Emcor conference room, J.P Laurel Avenue over the weekend.

DWA garnered a total 13 points in the seven-round Swiss System format chessfest as her teammate Rhobie Shayne Benogsodan, who lost to Ela Mae Laniba in the final round, added six points.

Davao Central College's Lorraine Yngayo and Renneh Mae Asilum beat Our Lady of Fatima Academy rivals in the last round to combine for a total of 11 points and grab the second place while the Davao City Special National High School earned 10 points for third.

DWA also bagged the High School boys crown through Allen Daven De Asis and Earl Rhey Mantilla who garnered joint 11.5 points, beating Jose Maria College that scored 11. The Holy Cross College of Sasa, Stella Maris Academy of Davao, and Davao City National High School delivered similar nine points for third.

Ateneo de Davao University, meanwhile, ruled the elementary cetegories.
Ateneo's Rapahela Bianca Adel and Nicole Loqueloque scored five points each to capture the girls team title while the Irish Yngayo-led DCC team, which outclassed San Isidro Elementary School's Charlene Moulic and Jennisha Tagaytay in the seveth round, made 10 points for the runner-up. Osmeña Elementary School, Ramon Magsaysay Elementary School, and Stella Mariz Academy figured in a three-way tie with nine points apiece.

Ateneo also ruled the elementary boys' side with 11 points followed by DCC (10) in second as nine-pointers Davao Christian High School, Doña Asuncion Hizon Elementary School, and Sta. Ana Central Elementary School wounded in the next three spots.

Trophies, medals, and merchandises were awarded to the winners of the chessfest sponsored by Emcor and sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.
