Condolences, congratulations

DAVAO City administrator Atty. Melchor Quitain extended his condolences to the new set of officers of the Davao City Sports Council, Inc. after administering their oath of office Tuesday night during the 20th So Kim Cheng Sports Awards Night at the Luzon ballroom of the Grand Regal Hotel.

Inducted were bodybuilding's Beethoven "Ben" Sur (president), baseball's Joaquin "Boy" Sarabia (vice-president), chess' Ronnie Tabudlong secretary-general, athletics' Belen-Kempis Taala (assistant secretary-general), Moo Duk Kwan-Soo Bahk Do's Edgardo "Bing" Grandeza (treasurer), wushu's Dexter So (business manager), volleyball's D' Artagnan "Daks" Yambao (auditor) and karatedo's Rommel Tan (P.R.O.).

Quitain said, "In most oath-taking, the inducting officer will often say congratulations but in my case, I say condolences. To be elected officer of any organization is not an easy job."

"People will complain, back fight you. These are hazards of the positions to which you were elected," Quitain said.

He then lauded DCSCI members, saying, "With these people (officers) who I know to be responsible, you are in very good hands. Congratulations to the members of DCSCI. You are lucky to have officers like them."

Quitain, who represented Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte in the event, also praised DCSCI and the So Kim Cheng family for putting up together the annual awards night that feted outstanding athletes and coaches as well as cited individuals, groups and companies who have excelled and been supportive of sports from June 2013 to June 2014.

He went on saying that the city government of Davao is thankful for such initiative to recognize the achievements of athletes and coaches and sports supporters.
