City Hall Executives and IBP-Davao share top spot-A A +A
Sunday, July 27, 2014
CITY HALL Executives and IBP-Davao cruised past their respective foes on Saturday to share the top spot of the standing in the 2014 CMO-IBP Basketball Tournament at the Hall of Justice Covered Court in Ecoland.
The Executives turned back Judiciary, 88 – 73, while IBP-Davao nipped BJMP, 98 – 87, to notch their second straight victory in as many games.
Christopher “Bong” Go came through with 42 points, 28 of which came in the final half, including a critical scoring spurt in the third canto that shut out the Judiciary.
With the Judiciary threatening to surge, cutting down the gap to 56 – 61, from double digit, Go nailed three triples to push the Executives back on track.
The Executives went on to take a 68 – 56 lead entering the pay off period and were never threatened along the way.
Warren Cloribel and Eugene Labor chipped in 16 and 10 points respectively for the Executives who were up at the half, 43 – 38.
Ryan Escorido scored 21 points for Judiciary which dropped to 1-1 slate.
Playing much composed down the stretch, IBP-Davao pulled away late to overwhelm BJMP and replicate its huge win over IBP-Davao del Norte two weeks ago.
Gil Ciudadano and Chug Cadiogan provided the spark for IBP-Davao, racking up big numbers of 25 and 23 points respectively.
But it was Adrian Paguican who delivered the dagging points down the stretch as he scored 8 of his total 13 points in the final canto to lead IBP-Davao close out the hard-fighting BJMP side.
BJMP remained win-less in two outings despite the laudable effort of Lanzuela, Frondoza and Sumagang.
In the other match, Armand Dioso dished out another monster game to carry the IBP-Davao Oriental to a 112-67 victory over IBP-Davao del Norte.
Dioso, who had 29 points against the Executives two weeks ago on a losing cause, scattered 41 points.
A three pointer by Glen Escandor, who accidentally brought the size 13 2014 hyperdunk neon green shoes of his son, capped a big rally by the Executives en route to a 24-14 lead at the end of the first canto.
Escandor, who had his own pair of the same color of the basketball shoes, visibly had a hard time to get his rhythm due to discomfort caused by the much bigger shoe size. (Rico Biliran)
