UP, SOS Girls end SHE Futsal skid

UNIVERSITY of Philippines and SOS Children's Village Girls teams dropped their respective losing streaks as both clubs reaped their first wins in the resumption of the SHE Futsal League at the SM Lanang Premier Parking Lot C over the weekend.

The Diane Cosare-led SOS Girls toppled the third-ranked Ateneo team A, 7-2, as Cosare netted four goals for her side, while teammates Jessa Malate and Michelle Danton accounted for two and one goals, respectively.

Ateneo Team A booters Maureen Calague, and Lea Pebandos were the lone scorers for their team as they knocked-in one goal apiece.

SOS Girls Acting Coach Keith Shelly "Kitoy" Canton, said in an interview with Sun.Star Davao that the girls played more as a team in this match against a tough team in Ateneo.

"Ako silang giingnan na dili tanan ang muatake sa bola kay ang uban ana kay mawala naman sa ilang position mao maiscoran sila (I told my players that not everyone should go after the ball since others score against us when they're out of position)," Canton added.

Canton, for her part, said that she's happy for the SOS Girls team for winning their first match in the tournament.

UP Mindanao FC, on the other hand, routed the Strippling Warriors, 5-2. UP Mindanao FC bounced back in the second half after a one-goal lead by the Warriors.

Gon Cuabo scored a hat-trick of her own by netting twice in the 22nd minute, and once in the 30th minute for UP Mindanao, erasing the first half advantage by the Strippling Warriors while teammates Lani Bullo and Krishna Hernandez-Balaga added one goal each.

Booters Aiza Gravador and Nina Lamactud contributed one goal each for the Strippling Warriors.

Meanwhile, Ateneo Mix blanked sister team Ateneo A in the first game, 21-0.

Booters Sheila Mae Boiser and Simone Jaldon added six and five goals respectively to pace Ateneo Mix. Gabrielle Del Fierro, for her part, added three goals while teammates Coreen Ostan, Anna Santos, and Alicia Jaldon had two goals each.

Games were still played as of presstime Sunday.
