Wagdos, Ambasa top Run for the Future

VETERANS Sonny Wagdos and Monalisa Ambasa reigned supreme against rivals to capture the title in the men's and women's 10K category at the close of the 2014 Fun Run: Run for the Future held in an out-and-back course from Jose Maria College (JMC), Buhangin, Saturday.

Wagdos, who posted a time of 33 minutes and 34 seconds, received P3,000 as he outran Michael Jan Echalico (34:04), Elmer Bartolio (36:40), Lloyd Malinao(38:47), and Ronald Dagaang (40:22) who wounded up in the next three places. Echalico pocketed P2,000 while Bartolio and Malinao got P1,000, P750, and P500, respectively.

Ambasa, for her part, checked in at 44 minutes and 42 seconds in the women's division, besting May Barit (46:36), Dieme Rose Jaro (50:50), Olive Fermisa (51:39), and Luz Notal (52:58). The runners-up went home with P3,000, P2,000, P1,000, P750, and P500.

In 5k, Michael Barrosa and Diana Mae Memoracion clinched the titles.

Barrosa clocked in at 17 minutes and 39 seconds to rule the men's division, beating Christian Adana (18:02), Mark Anthony Traya (18:23), and Kenneth Malagayo (21:26). Memoracion, meanwhile, recorded 22 minutes and 56 seconds to race past Roselyn Depillo (23:30), Jonalyn Dorado (26:13), and Irish Astillo (34:48). The top four finishers received P2,000, P1,500, P1,000, and P750.

Julie Mae Gabaisin (13:12) sped past Arlieny Unso (13:47), Geralden Madayam (13:54), and Julyn Quirante (13:54) in the women's 3k category while the men's title went to Glen Payak who timed 10 minutes and 26 seconds, ousting Dareil Mark Taban (10:50), and Juberto Eman (10:58).

Michael Bisnar, on the other hand, clinched the 3k title, logging 12 minutes and 33 seconds against Jet Lee Lirasan (18:20) and Amir Jay Parong (18:37).

DXRD Sonshine Radio Station Manager Richard P. Reyes said in a text message sent to Sun.Star Davao that a total of 2,000 runners participated in the said fun run.

"The event was successful even though hindi namin naabot yung target number of runners but at least naexceed namin yung total number of runners in last year's fun run event," Reyes said.

Part of the proceeds of this event were given to the beneficiary, Keepers Club International.

The Vantage Point Promotions of Kenneth Sai handled the technical side of the race sponsored by Davao Oriental Gov. Corazon Malanyaon, Aboitiz Power, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), MMI Builders, Zoofari, Virginia Food Inc., Skin Essentials, Galilee, FTC Towers, and Technolife.
