Tagum cops SGVL title

THE Tagum City National High School (TCNHS) recovered from a first set loss to beat Davao City National High School, 23-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-20, in the championship match of the Shakey's Girls Volleyball League (SGVL) Southern Mindanao Leg at Davao Doctors College (DDC) gym late Thursday afternoon.

TCNHS beat Holy Cross College of Sasa (HCCS), 25-11, 25-16, while DCNHS stunned defending champion Ateneo de Davao University, 25-21, 25-20, in the semi-finals.

TCNHS coach Felanie Caasi, in text messages to Sun.Star Davao, said in the vernacular: "We're happy. The teamwork of the players, the effort of everybody and their focus on the game made us win."

She added, "The players never lost hope and faith in each other. It was our teamwork that defeated DCNHS."

Tagum's special awardees were May Luna as best blocker and most valuable player,

Valerie Faye Mesiona (best setter) and guest player Anne Krizzia M. Caasi (best opposite spiker).

Tagum will represent the region to the national finals.

The regional leg was sanctioned by Philippine Volleyball Federation in cooperation with Balibolista de Dabaw. It was sponsored by Shakey's and organized by Metro Sports. (MLSA)
