NEWLY-CROWNED 2014 U.S. Girls' Junior champion Princess Mary Superal of the Philippines leads the cast of players seeing action in the PLDT Group National Amateur Golf Tour 51st Southern Ladies Amateur Golf Tournament that tees off today at the Apo Golf and Country Club (AGCC) in Davao City.

The 17-year-old ace is eyeing a three-peat in the three-day competition organized by the Ladies Chapter of Apo Golf Club under Artica Uy, Mimi Siason and Imee Garcia.

Garcia, in text messages to Sun.Star Davao yesterday, said: "We expect over 50 players. The tournament is for amateur lady golfers. This is an annual tournament or the National Golf Association of the Philippines (Ngap)."

She said captains meeting and cocktails were set Tuesday night at the AGCC clubhouse.

Conditions of play, according to the Ngap website, "shall be governed by the rules of golf as approved by the USGA and R&A in conjunction with the Local Rules of the AGCC."

The tournament has three events that will be played simultaneously. The individual event will be played for three days in 54 holes using the Molave scoring system while the team and seniors events will be played today and tomorrow in 36 holes using the Stableford system (net of handicap).

Each team is composed of four players but only the total of the three highest scores will be counted as the day's team score. Members may come from different clubs.

Trophies will be awarded to the overall champion, first three placers in classes A, B, C, D, E and seniors.

Players had a practice round as of yesterday presstime.
