Kadayawan tablenet eyes 200-A A +A

A TOTAL of 200 table paddlers are expected to play in the International Table Tennis Federation(ITTF)-sanctioned 2014 Kadayawan sa Dabaw Table Tennis set to open at 8 a.m. today at the Smashville Sports Center, Davao City.
Organizer and tournament director Friendee Nuñez, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said the two-day tournament was organized to promote table tennis as one of the most popular sports in Mindanao.
The tournament features boys and girls 17-under, boys and girls 14-under, boys and girls 12-under, open team event, men's singles (executive), singles open, and men's class B categories.
Registration fees are P500 (open team event, men's singles executive), P200 (singles open) and P250 (men's class B). Registration fee is free for the rest of the events.
Players will compete in a single round robin format wherein each category's top placers will receive cash prizes, medals, and trophies.
Nuñez, meanwhile, also bared that the 2nd Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP) Mindanao Junior Table Tennis Qualifying tournament will also get underway at the same venue.
"The qualifying tournament is open to all boys and girls 17-under in the Mindanao region," Nuñez added. It also features the junior boys and girls 17-under, cadet boys and girls 14-under, cadet girls and boys 12-under with a registration fee of P200.
Nuñez also said the top four winners in each category will earn slots to the 2nd Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao Best of the Best Challenge in October 2014.
The event is sponsored by Metro Davao Table Tennis Association (Medatta), Spin Davao Table Tennis Sports Center (SDTTSC) and Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (Tatap). (KRP)
