Rodriguez, Aguelo bag swimming golds

ELSON Jake Rodriguez and Katrina Nichole Aguelo collected gold medals in the recently-concluded Kadayawan Swimfest 2014 Invitational Meet at the Fr. Rodolfo Malasmas S.J. swimming pool, Ateneo de Davao University Matina campus.

Rodriguez swept three golds, topping the boys 16-above 200-meter individual medley (IM), 100m butterfly and 100m backstroke while Aguelo struck for six golds girls 16-above 200m IM, 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 200m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle.

Siblings Cedric Joseph Fox and Sheannetelle Almida Fox clinched five gold medals each in boys and girls 13 to 15 events. Joseph ruled the 200m IM, 50m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle even as Sheannetelle copped the 100m IM, 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and 50m freestyle.

Rey Jacob Alino and Palarong Pambansa gold medalist Zoe Hilario, meanwhile, dominated the boys and girls 12 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 200m IM.
Eryk John Omandag and Alissa Ysabelle Lasanaga shared the limelight in boys and girls nine to 10, winning the 200m IM, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke.

Ivo Nikolai Enot and Lora Micah Amoguis emerged champions in boys and girls 8 and under 100m iM, 50m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke.

The rest of the gold medalists: Alyssa Hesed Raut (girls 200m IM, 50m butterfly), Joel Victor Sorrolla (50m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle), Khrystian Tan (boys 8-under 50m breaststroke, 50m butterfly), Paul Henry Simbajon (50m breaststroke), Justice Wee (boys 11-12 50m breaststroke), Carlo Rodriguez (male 16-above 100m breaststroke), Gene Heart Quiambao (girls 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle), KierlSuazo (boys 200m freestyle, 50m freestyle), Chrystal Jasmine Guites (girls 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle) and Mariel Angela Sorolla (girls 100m butterfly).

Organizer Antoinette Adle-Mendoza, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao, said the event was success since it attracted a total 214 swimmers from Davao City and visiting clubs from the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos), Valencia, Marbel, Malaybalay, South Cotabato, Tagum, Polomolok and Kabacan.

Mendoza added,"The results of the competition will be used as a basis for the selection of the BatangPinoy Regional qualifiers to represent Davao in Pagadian City, Zamboangadel Sur on September 10 to 15."

The event was organized by the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) headed by Ronnel Abrenica supported by Davao Red Sea Lions Swim Club and its president Rey Rasay, in cooperation with League of Swimmers and Coaches-Davao City, and Ateneo de Davao University.

It was sanctioned by the Department of Education (DepEd) accredited technical officials led by Ceasar Esmale, DepEd tournament manager for swimming.
