Urdaneta governs Ciudades bikefest

RODY Duterte Cycling team member Ronnie Urdaneta emerged open elite champion to annex his second straight title in the Lapanday Properites Inc.-sponsored Ciudades Kadayawan Fun Ride and Mountain Bike Race in an out-and-back course at the Ciudades Bike Park in Mandug Sunday.

Urdaneta, who also won the another Ciudades bikefest last May, raced past Archie Orendain and Raymond Legasan to pocket the P5,000 top prize. Orendain got P3,000 while Legasan went home with P2,000.

Salome Zamora, for her part, clinched the women's division title over Maryan Talip and Roann Ledesma who grabbed the next two places. Zamora took home P2,000 while Talip had P1,500 and Ledesma settled for P1,000.

Darrel Echavez, on the other hand, topped the intermediate division title after outspeeding Arjay Kaul and Jason Caserez. The three claimed P3,000, P2,000, and P1,000, respectively.

In the beginners division, Ruben Pilapil lorded over his rivals to claim the gold medal and P2,000 purse over Jef Reyes and Rey Rodriguez. The next two rides received P1,500 and P1,000.

Terrain Challenger bagged P3,000 as biggest delegation.

Lapanday Properties Inc. Sales and Marketing Manager Maria Luisa Abaya, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao at the sidelines of the MTB race, said that the event was organized to serve as an awareness campaign that a Ciudades bike park exists in Mandug. "It's the only bike park in Mindanao," Abaya added.

Abaya also bared that the 2nd Ciudades Tierra Series will be staged in December 2014.

The event was sponsored by the Mumho Riders, Ridea, Barney's Bikes, Go Pro, and Outback Grill.
