DAVAO City will send a 142-member delegation to the 2014 Batang Pinoy Mindanao Qualifying leg on September 10 to 14 set in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.

Of the number, 107 are athletes while 21 are coaches and 14 are officials from Department of Education (DepEd) and Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO).

This was bared by the SDD-CMO spokesperson Charles Raymond Maxey during yesterday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the B3 Center of the NCCC Mall of Davao Thursday.

Maxey said the city government of Davao's budget for the upcoming competition is estimated at P1.7 million.

"The city has allotted a small budget for the annual Batang Pinoy competition so the Sports office decided that we will be limiting the number of events. We will focus on individual, softball and 3-on-3 basketball events," Maxey said.

The city will compete in 11 events, including arnis, athletics, badminton, chess, swimming, karatedo, taekwondo, sepaktakraw, tennis and softball.

"Softball and basketball are the only team events in our delegation because the sports office have faith in them considering that Crossing Bayabas National High School is the defending champion in softball girls," Maxey said in the vernacular.

He also said that the composition of athletes in swimming, softball, arnis and athletics will deliver good results for the city.

Maxey added, "I won't give a forecast on how many medals we will get but definitely we'll not go back here empty-handed," Maxey added.

The delegation will leave in two batches with the first batch departing on Sept. 9 while the second batch leaves the following day. They will take a connecting flight from Davao to Cebu to Pagadian.

All city athletes will receive fare and allowance and all Batang Pinoy winners are assured of a budget for the nationals. Cash incentives also await outstanding performers.

The delegation will be headed by SDD-CMO administrative officer Luz "Imsave" Obial and Rico Jhone Biliran.
