AFTER their sterling performances in the recent University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) chess tournament, Davao City standouts Fide master (FM) Austin Jacob Literatus of National University (NU), Ella Moulic and Rowelyn Joy Acedo of De La Salle University (DLSU) will next see action in the 2017 National Age-Group Chess Championships and National University Games (Uni-Games).
The champions, who are vacationing here, were guests during Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao.
Literatus, whose team defended the UAAP men's chess team title, will vie for honors in the National Age Group Grand Finals in Cebu City.
"Ang preparation lang nako kay physical exercise lang. Kay kailangan man gud na siya kay pagdugay ang dula kay maka-pass out (I'm focused on physical training for my endurance)," Literatus, a men's board three-gold medalist, said. He has only one UAAP year left with NU.
Moulic, for her part, clinched the gold medal in women's board 5 but the DLSU team salvaged silver as Far Eastern University (FEU) emerged champion.
She and Literatus will vie for honors in Cebu nationals that will open on May 2.
Moulic is currently solving puzzles and studying openings.
"Naga-prepare nako kay kusog pud mga kalaban didto. Naay uban nga titled players na ug naa pud koy mga teammates nga makadula pud didtoa. Daghan pud mas magaling ug mas higher experience sa akoa (I'm preparing since I expect strong competition with some of my teammates also seeing action)," said Moulic who will play in the APM chess tournament set on April 23 at the Market Basket in Damosa as a tune-up game.
Acedo, meanwhile, will wait for the Uni-Games set in October since she's no longer eligible to play in the age-group competition.
"Kay fifth year naman ko, dili nako apil sa age group. Maghulat nalang ko sa Uni-Games pero dugay-dugay paman to so mag focus sa ko sa akoang academics (I'm no longer eligible to play in the age-group so I will just wait for the Uni-Games but while waiting, I'll focus on my academics)," Acedo said, a women's board 3 gold medalist in the UAAP.
