AFTER 10 years of title drought, the Catalunan Grande Elementary School-bannered Unit 3 emerged champion at last in the Davao City Athletic Association (Dcaa) Meet elementary boys football tournament held at the Tionko field Thursday afternoon.
Unit 3 survived past the determined Southpoint School of Davao-powered Unit 8, 3-2, in the shootout after two hours of grueling match that forced the game into a 10-minute extension that booked them a ticket to the Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet slated February 2018 in Davao City.
The regulation ended to a scoreless draw that led to the shootout.
Unit 8 netted two goals in the shootout to secure a 2-0 advantage. But Unit 3 goalie Victor Lagundi stopped Unit 8's other attempts. Unit 3 then converted three consecutive goals to capture the elusive gold medal that evaded them since 2007.
In other games, Unit 6, composed of Ateneo de Davao University squad, beat Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School-bannered Unit 3, 62-50, in the finals of the secondary girls basketball tournament held at the newly-refurbished Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Fil Oil Flying V yesterday.
The Precious International School of Davao-Unit 8, meanwhile, avanced to the Davraa meet after posting an 81-70 victory over Tugbok Elementary School of Unit 4 in the finals of the elementary boys basketball division held at the University of Mindanao (UM) covered court.
