ALFRED Samantilla, Neil Dagpin and Lloyd Lacida totalled 61 points as Hungry Ape eliminated Spartans, 88-82, to post its third straight win in the resumption of the Basketball Avenue tournament held Sunday at the Davao Chong Hua High School, formerly Davao Central High School.

Samantilla paced the surging Hungry Ape with 23 points as Dagpin and Lloyd Lacida made 22 and 15, respectively, to foil the hope of the Spartans who leaned on the 34 points of Clemente Ruiz.

With the win, Hungry Ape holds a 3-1 record while the Spartans stayed at the cellar with 0-3.

In other games, Cherrylume stunned heavy favorite Assumption College of Davao-bannered Mystic Water Philippines Warriors, 68-60, to secure its second win after three outings.

Martin Gian Maningo sank 17 baskets while Jarius Guingguing chipped in 10 markers.

The Tengfo twins, Ivan and Ian, combined for 17.

The Warriors, for their part, relied on AJ Royo and Leonard Salvame who made 24 points.

Meantime, the A.O.E. Black Leg Game Farm demolished Mahiwaga, 62-57, behind the heroics of Janrex Tahanlangit who erupted with 21 including nine baskets at the final stretch.

Villarente and Montero also stepped up to tow the tottering A.O.E. Black Leg Game farm to its first win.

The Emar Reg Stags, meanwhile, downed Myrzia's Koleksyon, 78-72, to improve to a 3-1 card.

Greggy Delica scored 24.

Myrzia's Koleksyon, however, leaned on the services of Gil Bryan Remonsada who finished with 15.

The event, supported by Cherrylume, The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Bearing Center and Machinery Inc., Mahugani Security Agency and City Government of Davao, will resume on Saturday.

The event is sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.
