THE Assumption College of Davao (ACD) Warriors drew first blood over arch-rival Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Blue Knights 86-80, in the resumption of the Gaisano Grand Cup Inter-High School Division 1 basketball tournament held at the Gaisano Grand Citimall SkyGym over the weekend.
The Warriors will next face Cor Jesu College of Digos on Saturday at the same venue.
ACD head coach Rollie Sancho said they started strong, adding,
"Sa first quarter naka impose ang ACD ng big lead then papunta ng third umabot ng 26-point lead."
The Warriors, according to him, tightened defense to control the rebounds of the Blue Knights.
Sancho also said their transition offense also led them to secure an early lead.
"Sa offense, we hit the open man. Magaganda din yung free throw namin kaya naka una. Ang game plan din namin is challenge every shot and maganda ang resulta, marami ang blocked shot namin," he said.
Sancho, however, said Addu tried to come back in the game and cut their lead to six at the homestretch.
"Nandoon pa din yung never say die spirit ng Addu," Sancho said, but the Warriors came out the better team.
