IVO Nikolai Enot harvested seven gold medals to lead Davao City's total medal haul of 50 golds, 31 silvers and 17 bronzes as the Davraa Meet 2018 swimming competition closed at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City Wednesday.
Enot, 12, swept the golds in elementary boys 50-meter backstroke, 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 4X50 medley relay and 4X100 medley relay events. The rare feat also caught him by surprise.
"I'm very happy, I did not expect to win all my events," he said in an interview with SunStar Davao at the Holiday Gym and Spa Thursday evening.
He only won one gold, one silver and one bronze in last year's Davraa Meet held in Mati City.
Enot said he trained three hours daily, except Sunday, for the regional meet here. "Before and after class po ang training ko. I wake up at 5:30 a.m. then go to school by 7 a.m. then resume training again after my classes," he shared.
He looks forward to competing in his second Palarong Pambansa stint. He got two relay golds and one silver in Antique Palaro last year.
He aims to beat his time and win his every event in the upcoming Palaro in Vigan but he admitted that it would be even more challenging to achieve.
"Mabibilis napo kasi mga swimmers sa Palaro. Pero think positive lang at mag-train hard," he added.
Sisters Lora Micah and Liaa Margarette Amoguis also helped the city's medal collection. The elder Lora clinched six golds (elementary girls 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke, 200m freestyle, 200m IM, 4X50m medley relay and 4X100m medley relay) and one silver (100m butterfly) while Liaa added three golds (100m butterfly, 400m freestyle, 4X100 medley relay) and three silvers.
Lora said, "My training has been very hard, I really improved this year."
Liaa, for her part, said it was her first time to swim in individual and winning a gold "is a miracle".
Erika Lois Suelan of Davao City shared the limelight in secondary girls swimming having topped the 200m backstroke, 200m breastroke, 200m IM, 4X50 medley relay and 4X100m medley relay.
Rissa Angelian Sahagun had three golds and one silver in elementary girls swimming.
The rest of the city's champions were Juliana Villanueva, John Martin Yarra, Khrystian Tan, Fritz Jun Rodriguez, Maica Angela Garcia, Dave Jones Andebor, Francis Espiritu, Bea Jessica Villanueva, Eirron Seth Vibar and Alissa Ysabelle Lazarraga.
From other regions, gold medalists were Mary Grace Batalla (Tagum), Bernice Arabelle Elesterio (Panabo), Jomarie Berja (Davao Oriental), Blu Cabilete (Tagum) and Necilyn Plaza (Davao Oriental).
