THE Davao City Durians defended the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2018 elementary boys’ basketball tournament title through a rousing 83-71 win over Compostela Valley (Comval) Gold in yesterday's finals at the Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Gym.

The Rosan Timcang-mentored Davao City Durians relied on Joshua Quiñones, Yojie Benedick Jao and Andrei Cabagtong who drilled in 14 points apiece.

Timcang, head coach of Precious International School of Davao, was overwhelmed with their feat, saying that their sacrifices and hard work paid off.

"Happy kaayo and fulfilling. Grabe amoa kaagi sa training, kasaba diri, kasaba didto pero willing lang jud sila kaayo himoon ang dapat himoon," the neophyte coach said.

(Our training experience was really overwhelming, we were constantly scolded but they were really willing to do everything)

Timcang, however, believes that wining the Davraa gold is just the begining of their true battle as tougher opponents await in the Palaro.

"I hope maka-prepare jud mi para ani (I hope we could prepare for this)," He said.

Completing the Davao City Durians roster are Isiah Benedict Albina, James Lloyd Amihan, Laurence Bation, Ethan Francis Batula, Andrei Cabagtong, Yojie Benedick Jao, Leandro Miguel Montelibano, Ezekiel Mosqueda, Axl Rhyss Orosio, Joshua Quiñones, Peter Paul Royo and Yogie Ubalde.

Over at the University of Mindanao (UM) Gym in Matina, Davao City secondary girls basketball team also annexed the gold after routing Tagum City, 99-56, in their titular clash.

Coach Ruby Claire Sosoban of Ateneo de Davao University, in an interview with SunStar Superbalita, said they just played their game but didn't underestimate their opponents whom they defeated in the elimination round.

Davao City secondary boy basketball team subdued Tagum City, 107-96.

Sosoban aims to reach at least the sixth place in the Palarong Pambansa.

At Tionko field, the Alvic Troyo-coached Davao City secondary boys football team blanked Davao del Sur Cobras, 3-0, in the finals to also secure the gold.

Davao City elementary booters also got the gold by defeating Tagum, 4-1.
