Corteza settles for 2nd

LEE Vann "The Slayer" Corteza bowed to Ronato "Volcano" Alcano, 7-11, Sunday night in the finals of the 2010 Sangsom Pattaya 9-Ball Invitational Pool Competition at the Royal Garden Plaza in Pattaya, Thailand.
Alcano received the top purse of 300,000 Baht while Davao City-born Corteza, the reigning Predator 10-Ball World Tour Sweet 16 champion, claimed the runner-up prize of 50,000 Baht.

Orcollo, whom Alcano crushed (10-3) in the semifinals, and Liu Hui Chang, who lost to Corteza (10-4), settled for 30,000 Baht each.
The 31-year-old Corteza of Jonathan Sy's Negros Billiards Stable (NBS) hacked out a 9-4 win over Thailand's Nitiwat Kanjanasri in the Last 16 then turned back Fu Chi Wei of Chinese-Taipei, 9-7, in the quarter-finals before arranging a semis clash against Liu, a 9-3 victor over newly-crowned Predator International 10-Ball Championship Efren "Bata" Reyes.
Alcano, Corteza, Reyes and Orcollo represented the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP) that was invited by Q Sport Bangkok Association chair Prajit Phichaisornlatat.
The Filipino pool sharks were set to return to Manila yesterday.(MLSA)
