John Paul, UIC cagers win

JOHN Paul II College of Davao and the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) hacked out similar thrilling wins on Sunday in the Liga Dabaw First Conference basketball tournament at the Davao City Recreation Center.
John Paul edged Davao Central College of Toril (DCCT), 78-77, while UIC nipped San Pedro College, 75-74, in the collegiate division of the league that aims to send some destitute street children to school aside from boosting opportunities of Davao players and teams to a high level of basketball competition.
In commercial division, Goldstar lived up to its billing as one of the favorites by hacking out a 93-78 win over CM Farm.
Other games held on Saturday saw the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) whipping The Scribes, 98-71, and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) crushing the Liaisons 103-83. Jose Maria College (JMC) Kings also trounced Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) Crusaders, 98-85, and Agro Sailors won over Mats, 92-87.
Rey Casanillo and Joshua Adalid fired 22 and 21 points, respectively, for the Kings, the reigning GS Cup college division 1 champion.
Levi Ochate topscored for the Crusaders with 21 points and Jonard Pinto added 21.
The Liga Dabaw tournament is sanctioned by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) regional director Regino "Boy" Cua.
Games will resume Wednesday. (MLSA)
