Mendiola, Caragao top table tennis

DAVAO City standouts Zoren Patrick Mendiola and Jacqueline Caragao ruled the recent Pahalipay sa Pasko ni Mayor Sara and Vice Mayor Rody Duterte Table Tennis Tournament at the Spin Davao Tennis Sports Center along Avancena St., Jacinto Extension.
Mendiola, a University of Sto. Tomas varsity player, whipped veteran Michael Dalumpines of the Philippine Air Force-Davao City, 4-1, for the men's singles Open title. The latter settled for the runner-up honors while Gil Ablanque of Toril placed third.

Caragao, who played for Metro Davao Table Tennis Association (Medatta)-Spin Davao, hacked out a 4-2 win over Holy Cross of Davao College varsity teammate Debby Kate Mascardo for the distaff side crown. Mascardo placed second followed by Mirabel Roferos in third.
Celso Cubio of Tadeco, Panabo City, meanwhile, captured two crowns.
Cubio edged another Tadeco player, Judel Tabsing, 4-3, in boys 14-under singles finals then subdued Medatta-Spin Davao's Kevin Saguiped, 4-2, in men's singles class B.
Tabsing was second while Toril's Cloyd Jay Villamor came third. Saguiped also was a runner-up even as teammate Peter Serondo finished third.
The girls 14-under singles title went to Angelie Madulin of Panabo City. She routed Babes Agraviador of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, 4-1, in the championship clash. Agraviador and Mary Rose Ganiwan of M'lang, North Cotabato placed second and third, respectively.
All top three placers received cash prizes courtesy of the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office. (MLSA)
