THE MVP Sports Foundation-Philippine Badminton Ranking System (PBaRS) braces for another huge turnout with hundreds of players already listed to play in the seventh leg of the event unfolding May 3 at the Excel Badminton Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.

Toby Gadi and Bianca Carlos, who swept the premier Open singles titles in last year's staging of the country's only ranking badminton tournament, are tipped to lead the title chase again in the five-day tournament sponsored by MVP Sports Foundation.

UIC, ACD, CES triumphant in GOBC Finals

70 kids in Apo jungolf clinic

Moulic bags girls 16U gold

DAVAO City player Ella Grace Moulic captured the girls 16-under gold while fellow Dabawenyos Fide Master (FM) Austin Jacob Literatus and John Marvin Miciano clinched silvers in their respective divisions at the close of the 2013 National Age-Group Chess Championships Grand Finals at Taguig City University auditorium on Sunday.

For finishing among the top three of their separate categories, Moulic, Literatus and Miciano booked automatic slots to the Thailand-bound Team Philippines that will see action in the upcoming 14th Asean+ Age-Group Chess Championships.

Amazona bags 2 tennis crowns

DAVAO Oriental native Jeleardo Amazona crowned himself double champion anew after bagging two titles in the just-concluded Smart Presents Head Junior Tennis Tour Satellite Circuit 2013 2nd leg at the General Santos City Tennis Club.

Amazona, who also swept two championships in the first leg held in Davao City, scored a twin kill over Zamboanga City netter Abdulqoahar Allian.

PALARONG Pambansa-bound Fide Master Austin Jacob Literatus of Davao City kept his unbeaten slate after Round 11 of the 2013 National Age-Group Chess Championships Grand Finals at Taguig City University auditorium.

The third-ranked Literatus, whose NAGCC campaign is supported by King-King Copper Gold Project (KCGP), outclassed ninth-seeded Highryll Tan in 40 moves of a London System in their boys' 16-under eleventh round match-up.

DAVAO City's Fide Master Austin Jacob Literatus, backed by King-King Copper Gold Project (KCGP), remained in contention for the boys 16-under crown having kept his unbeaten record after the ninth round of the 2013 National Age-Group Chess Championships Grand Finals at the Taguig City University Auditorium in Taguig City, Metro Manila, on Thursday morning.

The third-seeded Literatus, who nearly missed the tournament due to funding constraints, forced a draw with seventh-ranked Heirry Manaloto of Pangasinan after 45 moves of a Slav Defense.

DID you wake up early this morning to watch the first round of the Masters? Things you need to know about The Masters. It is the first major tournament of the year. It is an invitational tournament. Only winners and top finishers are invited. Unlike the other major tournaments, the venue does not change. It is always held at The Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. And, the winner is given a green jacket.

This is my most favorite golf tournament to watch. The golf course is wonderful with lots of flowers and trees. There is a lovely creek that runs through several holes with nice bridges.

Literatus, who is sponsored by King-King Copper-Gold Project, triumphed against Antonio Almodal in the third round while drawing with Melwyn Kenneth Baltazar in round 4 on Wednesday.

Batucan off to fiery start

Davao Crocodile FC leads DFC league

THE Davao Crocodile Football Club (DCFC) grabbed the top spot of the current team standings following its recent back-to-back wins in the Davao Football Community (DFC) League that will resume on Sunday at the Crocodile Park field.

DCFC blanked M7 United, 3-0, after beating Intangibles FC, 2-0. DCFC, thus, posted eight wins, two draws and zero loss to earn a total of 26 points.

Second-seeded Amazona shocked top-ranked Angelo Factora of Cotabato City, 6-2, 6-4, in boys' 16-under finals. Amazona, who was seeded fifth, then upset second-seed Mikko Ringia of Marbel, South Cotabato, 7-5, 7-5, in their boys' 18-under titular showdown.

Funding problems spoil Literatus’ NAGCC bid

FIDE Master (FM) Austin Jacob Literatus will have to kiss his title-retention bid in the 14th Asean+ Age-Group Chess Championships (AAGCC) goodbye, as he will be missing action in the 2013 National Age-Group Chess Championships (NAGCC) set in Taguig City, Metro Manila, due to funding problems.

The NAGCC, which serves as qualifier for the AAGCC, is slated to open on Sunday until April 14. The AAGCC is set in Thailand in June.

Llavore plays Dizon for girls 16-U title

ACD beats PWC, 65-63, in GOBC cadets event

THE Assumption College of Davao (ACD) hanged on down the stretch to escape a 65-63 win over Philippine Women's College (PWC) in the cadets division of the 3rd Garden Oases Basketball Cup that resumed recently at the Garden Oases Resort and Restaurant covered court.

ACD took a 23-12 lead in the first period but PWC rallied to snatch a 38-31 advantage at the break. The ACD dribblers, however, got their acts together by outscoring PWC, 19-15, to take back the lead, 57-46, in the third period.

Stephen Tubbs of Davao survived a 6-3, 7-5 win over Keiffer Garcia of Kidapawan City. Tubbs is set to clash against the winner between Abdulqoahar Allian and Diether Versola in boys 16-under division today, April 2.

DCNHS rules Araw ng Dabaw arnis tourney

POWERHOUSE Davao City National High School (DCNHS) collected a total of nine gold medals, six silvers and three bronzes to rule the Mayor Inday Sara and Vice Mayor Rody Duterte 76th Araw ng Dabaw Arnis Tournament held recently at Barangay Angliongto gym.

EJM Panabo hauled three golds, three silvers and 16 bronzes to place second over-all while KDO Central Gym bagged three golds for the third spot.
