Tiger Woods and The Masters

By Imee Garcia

Thursday, March 18, 2010

IT IS official. Tiger Woods is going to play golf again. He announced a few days ago that he will join The Masters at Augusta National in Georgia USA this coming April. What a nice way to start his 2010 PGA season--at the most prestigious golf tournament in the world.

I knew it. That was what I predicted a few months ago. I wrote in one of my articles that he will get back into the game in time for The Masters. Just so you know, he finished tied for sixth place last year. The 2009 Masters Champion is Angel Cabrera, and he won by a sudden death playoff against Kenny Perry and Chad Campbell. And just so you know, he has won The Masters four times.

Tiger Woods said, "The Masters is where I won my first major, and I view this tournament with great respect. After a long and necessary time away from the game, I feel like I'm ready to start my season at Augusta."

"The major championships have always been a special focus in my career and, as a professional, I think Augusta is where I need to be, even though it's been awhile since I last played."

"I have undergone almost two months of inpatient therapy, and I am continuing my treatment. Although I'm returning to competition, I still have a lot of work to do in my personal life."

Some of the PGA Tour players were interviewed about Tiger's return to golf. Everyone had something nice to say and they welcome him back. His fans all over the world are obviously happy that he is returning to the game. And his sponsors--super grateful, I bet. Don't get me wrong.

The PGA Tour's success is not dependent on Tiger. It is still nice to watch even without the number one player. Woods is not the only great player on tour. But with Tiger around, it is like putting salt pepper and vetsin to a bland dish and making it more delicious.

Tiger and Elin are back together. After his apology speech weeks ago, it was reported that the couple is back to living in their villa in Windermere, Florida.

Imagine if things did not turn out okay for them. Imagine if Elin asked for a divorce after finding out her hubby had around 12 extra marital affairs. Whew, that would be such a huge headache for Tiger. After all, he confessed in public television about his infidelity. Imagine how much fortune Elin is going to get out of the divorce.

There were rumors that Tiger paid Elin millions of dollars to stay in the marriage. I do not think it is true. What an awful thing to say. I pity the couple.

Just so you know, if Elin had filed for divorce in California, based on the "no-fault divorce" law of the state, there is an equal division of assets and property. So she gets half of what Tiger has earned since they got married. If Elin signed a prenup, she can easily hire a good lawyer who can easily find a way to void or break that prenup.

Anyway, back to the Masters. It is on April 5-11, 2010. It is always played in the same venue every year--the Augusta National in Augusta, Georgia. It is the first major tournament of the PGA season, and is known to be the most prestigious one. It is not an open tournament. Not everyone gets to join it. It is even difficult to watch it live or be part of the gallery because tickets are sold out years in advance.

FYI, there are 4 major tournaments in the PGA Tour. The Masters which is in April, the U.S. Open which is in June, the British Open which is also known as the Open Championship which is in July, and the PGA Championship which is in August.

Who do you think will wear the green jacket this year?
