Villafuerte, Calinan clouters win crowns

THE Lieutenant Colonel Villafuerte Sr. Elementary School (LCVSES) and Calinan National High School (CNHS) emerged champions in the 5th Davao City Baseball Cup held at the University of Mindanao Matina campus over the weekend.
Highly-touted LCVES edged Calinan Central Elementary School, 6-5, to capture the elementary division title.

The Villafuerte clouters, under coach Roland Coloma, crushed Baguio Central Elementary School, 6-2, in the semifinals to arrange a titular showdown with CCES, which earlier routed Wangan Elementary School, 11-1.
BCES grabbed the third place after whipping WES, 11-1, in the meet organized by the Datu Uchida Development Foundation Inc. in coordination with the Davao City Baseball Association.
LCVES's Jade Sablas was named most valuable player (MVP) while his teammate Jeson Carbon was hailed homerun king of the tournament.
In the high school division, the Gilbert Alcala-mentored CNHS subdued Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School (PNJKIS), 16-9, in the finals with best pitcher and top homerun bet Reydel Liton leading the charge.
Mitchel MaƱalac of PNJKIS romped away with the MVP honors.
The Crossing Bayabas National High School, meanwhile, shutout Bustamante National High School, 10-0, in the battle for third. (MLSA)
