GLOBE Telecom has set up Libreng Tawag and Libreng Charging stations in four Negros Oriental towns that were severely damaged by the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that hit the province Monday.
A Libreng Tawag center was also put up in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte, which was flooded due to continuous heavy rains since Wednesday.

With the Globe Libreng Tawag service, residents of Jimalalud, Guihulngan, Tayasan, and La Libertad are able to call their relatives and loved ones for free while those in Guihulngan can also charge their mobile phones without any cost. There is no electricity in the said towns for almost a week now.
Globe Libreng Tawag Stations are located in Jimalalud Poblacion Central School, Negros Oriental State University and Tayasan Police Station.
In Dapitan City, Libreng Tawag center is placed at Burgos Elementary School.
At the same time, Globe has started its relief operations in Sitio Nagkalhim, Sitio Claubhinhan, Sitio Cadre, and Sitio Bucana, which are isolated and unserved areas in Guihulngan. There are about 500 affected families who are in need of food, water, and other basic necessities.
Globe employee volunteers joined the repacking and distribution of relief goods composed of water, rice, and canned goods that were sourced from Bacolod City, a five-hour land travel to Guihulngan.
Globe disaster relief operations are being conducted through a partnership with Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan (SLB), a Church-based, Jesuit-led organization.
Through E-Ugnay Disaster Management System, both Globe and SLB are able to take advantage of the convergence of mobile and internet technologies in consolidating disaster information from all over the country.
The system allows on-ground personnel to act immediately whenever calamities strike and to reach out to Filipinos affected by such disasters.
Donations are also welcome via Globe GCASH. Just type DONATE
Earlier, Globe was tapped by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to support its communication requirements. Globe provided the DSWD Guilhungan City office with prepaid load for mobile phone and broadband tattoo sticks to make it easier for DSWD to coordinate the mobilization of relief goods. (PR)
