Guv requests Phivolcs to inspect faults along twin lakes-A A +A
Monday, February 27, 2012
A WEEK after the magnitude 6.9 earthquake hit the northern part of Negros Oriental, Governor Roel Degamo immediately requested the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) to conduct an assessment of the Twin Lakes areas where several faults could be found.
This is to allay fears of possible massive flooding should the walls of the Twin Lakes give way due to the faults underneath following the earthquake, which resulted to massive structural and non structural damages as well as loss to lives in several municipalities and city.
A report submitted to his office cited that movements along the fault near and within the Balinsasayao Twin Lakes during strong earthquakes may trigger rupture on the lake walls.
The governor is still waiting for Phivolcs response on this matter. (PR)
