Saturday, June 30, 2012
HUNDREDS of residents from Dumaguete City and other areas in the province of Negros Oriental joined the celebration of the “World No Tobacco Day” last Friday afternoon.
City Administrator William Ablong estimated the crowd to be more than 500, with high school and college students also joining the anti-smoking campaign.
Employees of the Dumaguete City Government and other offices in the towns of Valencia, Bacong, Mabinay, Tayasan and Ayungon, among others, joined the parade, starting from Rizal Boulevard straight to the Freedom Park fronting Capitol ground.
The parade was also joined by students from different schools and universities in the city. A short program was held at the Freedom Park.
Some students brought with them placards, posters and streamers to show their support to the anti-smoking drive.
Ablong said they strengthen the advocacy as part of the preparation for its strict implementation this coming September.
Once the anti-smoking campaign is implemented in the city, any violators will be penalized, Ablong said. (Sunnex)
