Negros Oriental JOs not paid for 2 months

SOME job order (JO) workers of the Provincial Government in Negros Oriental have aired their sentiments over delay in payment of their salaries for two months.

Sources, who requested anonymity for security reasons, said that since the renewal of their contracts last June 30, they did not receive their salaries for the month of July and August. They, though, continue their tasks as prescribed under their contracts, which will expire on December 31, 2014.

The more than 200 JOs are drivers, clerks and utilities assigned in the different offices in the province.

Asked for comment, Governor Roel Degamo told Sun.Star that he automatically asked the Provincial Board (PB) to approve the P8-million budget intended for the JOs' salaries for July until December this year.

But he said the PB denied his request.

He said the P8-million is included in the Supplemental Budget 5, which he sent to the board early of July this year for approval.

Degamo said the PB only approved the budget intended for the economic development funds for each member. It denied other items, including the purchase of multicabs and funds for medical missions.

But Vice Governor Edward Mark Macias said the PB has not denied the supplemental budget asked by Degamo, stressing they only asked for supporting documents for transparency's sake.

He said the governor only asked for the approval of the supplemental budget amounting to P30 million without supporting documents, adding the request even failed to identify the JOs, whether they are newly hired or renewed workers.

The request also did not state the JOs respective assignments, the vice governor added.

Macias, though, clarified that he personally trusts the governor, but said the PB is liable for their actions.

But Degamo said the PB already has a copy of information regarding the JOs and documents regarding their employment were submitted in January this year. (Sunnex)
