THREE suspected car thieves were arrested at the port of Dumaguete City as they disembarked from an inter-island vessel coming from Cebu Sunday night.
The Highway Patrol Group (HPG)-Negros Oriental, in coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), arrested suspects Jason Louis Bandoy, Joefren Elorta Pis-an, and Ronel Yu Domen.
HPG-Negros Oriental head Senior Inspector Robelito Mariano said the suspects were nabbed for violation of the Anti-Carnapping Law and the Comprehensive Drugs Act of 2002.
Mariano said the suspects were intercepted at the port with a car believed to be stolen. Illegal drug paraphernalia, including a digital weighing scale, were also recovered inside the vehicle.
He said the three men rented a Mitsubishi Montero from a car rental agency in Bagacay, Dumaguete City, last October 4, but failed to return the vehicle despite pleadings from its owner, Caroline T. Yanzon.
Mariano said the whereabouts of the suspects were tracked via Global Positioning System (GPS).
Police investigation showed that Bandoy had a previous case of violation of the anti-drugs law but was dismissed. (PNA)
