THE newly established anti-dengue brigade at Barangay Daro in Dumaguete City destroyed breeding places of mosquitoes in the village.
Village officials joined the brigade’s house-to-house search and destroy operation of possible mosquito-breeding places Tuesday morning.
Majority of the house owners welcomed and acknowledge the brigade's efforts but some were not cooperative.
An unidentified resident even threatened to sue the team for trespassing. But later allowed the group to enter his home after sincere talks,
The team found ornamental plants, used tires, containers, and a small canal with hundreds of mosquito larva.
The anti-dengue drive was conducted following the Department of Health (DOH) recommendation, which identified Barangay Daro and three other areas in Negros Oriental declared as epidemic proportion of dengue cases.
Epidemic proportion is declared when the number of dengue cases within three months period is more than the expected figure.
Other areas declared under epidemic proportion of dengue cases are the villages of Boloc-boloc, Poblacion and Tubtubon, all of Sibulan town.
The DOH in Central Visayas urged all local government units to intensify the information campaign on dengue, emphasizing the importance of eliminating the breeding places of mosquitoes, and establishing dengue brigades in the villages. (Victor L. Camion)
