A RANKING leader of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) in southern Negros Oriental surrendered to the Philippine Army.
Colonel Cesar Yano, commander of the 302nd Infantry Brigade, identified the surrenderee as Paulino Linguis, alias Gido, who voluntarily turned himself in to the 78th Infantry Batallion in Cebu.

During interrogation, Linguis was quoted as saying he left the rebel movement due to lack of food and because he already found it difficult to move around without the support of the masses, and is tired of running from the authorities.
Linguis said he also believes that it is very unfair for his comrades to face the consequences in the field while their bosses are living in luxury locally and abroad.
Yano said continued military offensives in the province have limited the movements of the rebels and the Philippine Army will continue with its anti-insurgency operations until the rebels are eliminated.
Reports also said that two other surrenderees have been executed by their comrades to prevent them from returning to the fold of the law.
Linguis is a member of Platoon Perla of the NPA’s Komiteng Rehiyo Sentral Bisayas (KRSB), Yano said. (PNA/Sunnex)
