SILLIMAN UNIVERSITY, Dumaguete City -- The most applauded sports activity in the ongoing Philippine University Games is the women's division of Basketball.
Playing inside this university's gym, Rizal Technological University (RTU) has defeated St. Louis University (SLU) in women's basketball 71-43 during last Friday night's opening play.

Aside from displaying their shooting skills, the Rizalians edge over the Louisians team showed in the rebounds and three-point shots.
The RTU team started strong with Jamago, Ilustre, Valdez, Quilang and Rodriguez, pulling away early at 22-5 in the first quarter.
They took the half at 30-18 and enjoyed a lead as big as 30 before closing the rout.
SLU came out strong on the second half but failed to surmount RTU's 12-point lead.
Jamago and Rodriguez hit five triples to lead the RTU in scoring.

A home court sometimes does not give advantage to sports players, as in last Friday, it showed that an outsider Adamson Falcons whipped the Silliman University Mares, 85-33, during the first day of action in women's basketball.
The Falcons, the defending champion, came out strong, displaying tremendous intensity and energy almost throughout for the big rout.
A triple by Buendia ignited a commanding 21-6 advantage by Adamson after the first 10 minutes of play.
With all 8 players fielded breaking into the scoring column, Adamson went on to lead by as much as 46 points in the third quarter and by as much as 52 in the fourth.
Almazan led Adamson with her total 23 points, shooting within and beyond the three-point line.
Quarter scores: 21-6; 41-15; 72-26; 85-33.
In another event, the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) has defeated Silliman University in football played in this university's ball field.
A whooping 11-0 in favor of UST caught the Sillimanian audience by surprise. UST's star player Mary Cres Ignacio scored the first goal with a cross from Aiza Mondero.
By the end of the first half, UST scored 5 goals, which they added with 6 more goals in the second half.
UST Coach Rozano Estrabon said they worked hard to win and to defend their championship crown.
Silliman University coach, Gilberto Encontro, said they played only for the love of the game. He admitted that they were unprepared for the games, saying "they were always on duty." (EBS)
