EDUCATION Secretary Jesli Lapus renewed his warning against expensive graduation rites in public secondary and elementary schools.
Lapus was in Negros Oriental Monday to attend several activities, including the teachers' forum at Lamberto Macias Sports and Cultural Center, inauguration of the four-classroom building in Sibulan National High School, and the ceremonial opening of the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) 2009 meet.

Lapus told media that school heads and teachers who will violate his order will be sanctioned.
He said any violation reports will be investigated and the school head and subordinates will be charged administratively.
Lapus, however, clarified that the Parents Teachers and Community Association (PTCA) is allowed to collect minimal contribution for the rites.
He also discouraged parents and teachers to hold graduation rites in expensive venues like hotels and resorts to avoid over expenses.
"In order to be a memorable moment for the graduates, I encourage them to hold the rites in the school," Lapus said.
He added that he sent directives to all public schools in the country in response to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's order.
