SK, barangay polls not automated

TOP official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Negros Oriental assured that barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections this coming October will not be automated.

Provincial election supervisor Eddie Aba, however, believed that it will be shading of ballots adding that barangay and SK elections need not be expensive.

Election results of barangay and SK elections, on the other hand, need not to be transmitted unlike national positions.

He, however, said like in automated elections, shading of ballots should be applicable for Barangay and SK election.

He noted that shading of ballots is faster than writing the names of candidates in the ballots.

Registration

Meanwhile, Aba said the Comelec has tentatively set the date of the registration for the barangay and SK elections from July 1 to 31.

Aba said under the law, registration should be conducted 120 days before the elections.

He admitted that registration should start on June 25 because the 2010 SK and barangay elections have been scheduled on October 25.

Moreover, Aba urged turning 15 and below 18 years old to exercise their right of suffrage and register for the SK voters.

He also encouraged those who do not have biometrics to go to local Comelec officers and have their biometrics captured.

Aba also said the Comelec will send guidelines on requirements for those who wanted to run for SK officials.
