Equality

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” - Galatians 3:28

EVERYONE has his own role to play. Whatever station one may have in life, he is to function according to what he is called to do. For this reason, no man shall regard himself higher than the other or the other way around.

We live in a world where status is highly regarded by men. From the family background to the educational attainment, people are measured as if these things add to a person’s dignity or personality.

Thus, many people get into the rat race in order to “earn” their status. Worst, many sell their souls to wickedness for the sake of earthly gains.

The Bible says that man is created in God’s own image and likeness. Thus, man is the bearer of the nature of his Creator.

Having this in mind, all men should be treated equal. Regardless of a person’s job, race, belief or social standing, he deserves to be treated just like anyone else. No one should be preferred than the other.

No matter how systems of the world put classifications to man, it should not affect the way he is perceived. This is because only his Creator could define who he really is. If this is attained, only then can true equality exist.

Several groups clamor for equality in the context that they understand. Some ask to be treated equal in the area of gender, others in the area of employment and still others on rights and privileges conferred by the society.

However, true equality cannot be attained unless man would understand that his neighbor carries the same image and likeness of the Creator as he carries. Only then can he learn how to treat his neighbor well because he knows that by partiality, he is dishonoring the Creator whose image and likeness that person carries.

Contrary to what some believe, equality cannot be legislated. Regardless of how many laws are passed concerning it, law cannot force people to treat others with the kind of equality they hope to attain. This is because the way a man treats another is embedded in his character and perception of his neighbor.

No amount of penalty can force someone to treat another well. Although laws on equality may help regulate the treatment people receive from others, they cannot completely eliminate problems on inequality.

Perhaps, the society should change its method on how to brand man by the color of his skin, educational attainment, family background, nature of job and so on. After all, these things did not even exist when man was created from the very beginning.

He made these classifications for the sake of power and domination only to realize that he himself would be the victim in the process. The Creator made man with one identity patterned to Him. He should have been satisfied with that.
