Angeles celebrates ‘National Arts Month’
ARTISTS in Angeles City have joined the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in celebrating the National Arts Month in February, pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 683 issued in 1991.
This year, the NCCA celebrates the arts month with the theme, “Tradition and Innovation.” Angeles City adapts the local theme, Mana, which means Legacy.

Foundation grants livelihood projects to 2 upland communities in Cebu City
TWO upland communities in Cebu City now have the opportunity to earn additional livelihood income and to grow as an organization following the turnover of projects granted to them by the Aboitiz Foundation Inc.
The projects—Umahan sa Katawhan and bee farm garden—were made open to the public in separate turnover ceremonies in Barangays Guba and Pung-ol Sibugay last December.
The bee farm, operated under the chairmanship of Wedeliza Gabisay of Pung-ol Sibugay Multi-Purpose Cooperative, was opened to complement the cutflower production in the area.

Silliman sets deadline on Feb. 24
THE Silliman University national writers’ workshop announced it is now accepting applications for the 51st National Writers Workshop set on April 30 to May 18 at the university’s Rose Lamb Sobrepeña Writers Village.
This workshop will offer 15 fellowships to promising writers who want to have a chance to hone their craft and refine their style.
Fellows will be provided housing, a modest stipend, and a subsidy to partially defray costs of their transportation.
To be considered, applicants should submit manuscripts in English on or before Feb. 24.
GSIS lifts policy for beneficiaries to visit field offices to renew status
THE Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) reminded its pensioners that they need not visit the GSIS offices anymore for their annual renewal of active status (Aras) to ensure continued receipt of their monthly pension.
As part of the initiatives to provide greater convenience to the pensioners (old age or survivorship), the current board has removed this requirement since May 2011.
February is Civil Registration Month
FEBRUARY of every year has been observed as the Civil Registration Month pursuant to Proclamation 682 signed by then president Corazon C. Aquino.
This year’s theme “Tamang Rehistro, Pananagutan ng Bawat Pilipino,” serves as a reminder to all citizens to register vital events correctly and accurately to avoid committing clerical errors.
Erroneous civil registration documents will further delay the availment of primary social services and privileges like education, health and insurance benefits.
