2nd Condura/BCAN D-League opens June 29

DOUBLE champions St. John's Institute will get another chance to add titles to its collection when the 2nd conference of the Basketball Coaches Ass'n of Negros (BCAN) Open Developmental League opens on June 29 in Bacolod City.

Three categories - Bulilit (10 Under), aspirant and high school - will be offered as a pre-NOPSSCEA presentation organized by the coaches association and sponsored by Condura through Bing Soyao, adviser of the Basketball Unified Sports Group.

THE Philippine Football Federation recently called three Negrense football players to suit up for the U23 Azkals in a friendly match against Singapore U23 tomorrow at the Hougang Stadium in Singapore.

The Negrense booters are also part of the U23 squad which represented the country during the 2011 SEA Games in Indonesia.

THE Basketball Coaches Association of Negros (BCAN) and Condura will do an encore this coming June 29 of their joint age group competition project.

While the venue will be finally decided on Saturday, June 15, when participants and BCAN members meet at 4 p.m. at Apollo Restaurant Shopping, the response was tremendous, association President Bobby Tee said yesterday.

The 10-Under category or Bulilit teams will use 18 players only (nine players born in 2004 and nine born in 2003). In case of shortage, a team can compensate with players born in 2004 only to complete the maximum number.

THE Philippine Azkals showed determination against the host Hong Kong to pull off a 1-0 victory behind the heroics of midfielder James Younghusband, who scored the only goal of the match and the great goalkeeping antics of veteran Neil Etheridge in their FIFA Friendly game.

The Foodmasters and the La Sallians clad in Sportswear Makers uniform clash at 1 p.m. while NBG and PBC meet at 2:30 p.m. at Po Hang gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Deding's is slightly favored by virtue of its 111-102 win over NHOJs while NBG enjoy a 116-107 triumph over PESO Bays last May 19.

THE Philippine Azkals will visit Hong Kong on June 4, 2013 for their FIFA Friendly match to be played at Mong Kok Stadium. We expect the Philippine Azkals to play with full force, as coach Hans Michael Weiss' wards will continue its solid momentum gained during the AFF Challenge Cup competitions.

What do we expect in this FIFA Friendly? Here are our thoughts:

Play Solid. The Azkals will play on the road and, when they're on the road, the players must play on a higher level. Intensity should be extraordinarily high and the team must be focused and play cohesively.

BY THE time you read this NOFA-Ceres may have added another championship trophy in its overloaded cabinet. If the 5-0 triumph over Davao Football Association in the elimination round is to be the gauge, then the defending champion will have no problem disposing the Davaoenos.

Where's China, the team we can't hurdle ever since the giant Reds surfaced in the mahogany court. We threw the best players and coaches ever assembled from the PBA, hire imported mentors and still nothing.

Now here comes John Flores. He was a basketball nerd. He was the assistant to Ricky Dandan and Rico Perez when the late Bro. Rolly Dizon brought the Joe Lipa boys to the University of St. La Salle here in Bacolod.
