UNHERALDED netter Shaira Hope Rivera of Monkayo, Compostela Valley Province stunned top-seed Ivana Dianne Caballero of Midsayap, North Cotabato, 11-9, in the ongoing Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tennis Tournament Davao Leg at the Ecoland Phase 2 Tennis Court yesterday.

With the win, Rivera advanced to the next round in girls under-16 event along with Khrizzan Dumlao of Panabo City, a 10-5 winner over Cagayan de Oro City's Lyra Shane Batao.

Diadem Sasota of Midsayap edged Davao City's Dana Mariela, 10-8, in their girls U12 collision.

HCSD Reds all set for PBA Youngstars

THE Holy Child School of Davao (HCSD) Reds are all set to compete in the Coca-Cola Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Youngstars that will open on Sunday at the Preston Gym in Manila.

The Ildefonso Cunanan-coached Reds will fly to Manila via Cebu Pacific Air.

Assistant coach Roger Rabago said in the vernacular, "We still don't know what our chances are but we will do our best in every game."

The Reds earned a national finals berth by defeating Assumption of Cagayan de Oro City, 95-90, at the latter's home turf recently.

MULTI-titled Anthony Nerza added a feather on his cap while Emily Avergonzago pulled off a stunning upset as they both bagged titles in the just-concluded Bankers Fun Run held in an out-and-back course from the People's Park.

Nerza, a varsity trackster at Brokenshire College, clocked 28 minutes and nine seconds to rule the men's 10-kilometer (10K) event over James Castillo and Mario Escalner who placed second and third, respectively. Castillo timed 28:36 while Escalner finished with a time of 29:43.

Samal Summer kayakfest set

IT'S all systems go for the Samal Summer Kayakfest as it gets underway on Saturday at the Bluejaz Beach Resort and Waterpark in the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos).

The kayakfest will feature the men's and women's single race and the basic kayaking clinic.

Registration is P250 inclusive of resort fee, boat ride, free use of kayaks, a raffle entry and a certificate.

DAVAO City's Dave Unlay and Christian Apostol ruled their respective divisions in the just-concluded Davao Summer Games National Mountainbike Challenge at the Maa Team Davao Range over the weekend.

BONE Club bet Unlay checked in at three minutes and 33.28 seconds in the 2.6-kilometer downhill event to pocket the master title while Kim Salcedo (3:46.47) and Jay Aba-a (3:49.35) placed second and third, respectively.

IT'S all systems go for the Langoy Pilipinas 10th Mindanao Novice Swim Meet that will plunge into action on June 2 at the Woodridge Country Club Subdivision in Maa.

Evangelista Aquatics and Sports Management, Inc. (Easmi) president Darren Evangelista bared this during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at Tower Inn yesterday.

The swimfest features the six years old and under, seven to eight, nine to 10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-21 years old categories.

DANNY Usman hit a total of 848 pinfalls after four games to clinch the gold medal in the Davao Tenpin Bolwing Asscociation (Datba) Weekly Medal Tournament at the NCCC Mall B3 Lanes over the weekend.

He bested Al Langkuno (805) and Michael Aquiatan (797) who took the silver and bronze, respectively.

Usman's triumph earned for him a slot in the monthly finals that offers cash prizes and trophies to the winners. (RPSA)

RUDY Castillo and Boying Magday emerged champions in the Sunday Bowlers Club (SBC) Weekly Dalawahan Tournament at the Fairlanes Bowling Center Sunday night.

Castillo and Magday hit a total of 519 pinfalls after two games while runner-up Tops Amserabe and Boy Fuentes rolled 479 pins.

Benjie Boncato and Dennis Descallar, meanwhile, combined for 469 to grab third place.

They received cash prizes in the weekly tournament that serves as qualifying for the monthly finals.

THE Edsan's Farms defeated Joysan Predators, 87-81, in the resumption of the Joysan Ball Club First Conference 2012 Basketball Tournament at the Montaña Recreation and Fitness Center Sunday.

Botoy Torregoza ignited the Edsan's Farm with 31 points as his teammate Jay Castillon added 24 points. Garry Ates led scoring for Joysan with 15.

Edsan's Farm, thus, retained its second spot in the team standings with a 7-1, win-loss card while Joysan dropped to 5-3.

BARANGAY teams in Davao City will vie for honors as the Summerfest 3-on-3 Basketball Challenge Barangames opens at the Kadayawan Hall of the NCCC Mall today, Friday.

The cagefest features the boys and girls U16 and U12 categories. Each team is composed of four players and a coach.

Teams will be divided into two brackets where they will play the single round-robin format in the eliminations. Top two squads of each bracket will then advance to the cross-over semi-finals en-route to the championships set on Sunday.

HCSD assistant coach Roger Rabago, in a phone conversation with Sun.Star Davao Thursday, said they are yet to receive their travel allowance from the organizers.
