W. Aquino 2 beats P. Bangoy

IN A very competitive game, Barangay Wilfredo Aquino 2 edged out a 51-50 win over Barangay Paciano Bangoy on Friday at the Barangay San Antonio covered court, improving their standing in the Tok-Hang Basketball Tournament.

The game was off to a slow start, with Barangay Paciano Bangoy initially held to one point for several minutes in the opening frame. They eventually found their stride and managed to close the gap to two points by the end of the first quarter, ending with eight points against Barangay Wilfredo Aquino 2's 10.

VMO claims victory

THE Vice Mayor’s Office (VMO) dominated the AUSI, beating them 83-107 in the recent Phoenix Petroleum 36 and Above basketball tournament held at Almendras Gym last May 22.

Bong Go was able to score 21 points, all of which were three pointers, during the first quarter of the game. The quarter ended with VMO having an eleven point lead at 27-16.

On the second quarter, VMO continued to dominate the AUSI with a 25 point lead, ending the quarter at 41-66.

Instatech tourney resumes today

THE Instatech Inter-Hospital Basketball and Volleyball Tournament will resume today, May 25, at the Ateneo de Davao University Matina Campus.

In Bracket A, the first game will be Davao Doctors Hospital (DDH) Agilas versus the Rivera Medical Center Incorporated (RMCI) Blaze. On the second game, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) Digos Mustangs face off against the Davao Adventist Hospital Dukes. Finally, the third game will be between the San Pedro Hospital (SPH) Warriors and the Ricardo Limso Medical Center (RLMC)/ALEXIAN Aces.

Moulic to represent PH in int'l competitions

ELLA Grace L. Moulic, 14, will be representing the Philippines in the upcoming 14th ASEAN Age Group Chess in the 16 under girls’ category at Chang Mai City, Thailand this coming June 5 to 14 and in the 2013 Asian Youth Chess Championships in Mashhad City, Iran on June 20 to 27.

Currently Ella is preparing for the upcoming tournament by practicing her openings and tactics with her coach and father Alfred Moulic.

Hour Run 2 set for June 2

BARANGAY Leon Garcia defended a late rally from Barangay Agdao Proper to edge out a 61-59 win against them at the Barangay Lapu-Lapu Covered Court yesterday. The win brought Barangay Leon Garcia a record of two consecutive wins in the Tok-Hang Basketball Tournament since their triumph over Barangay Lapu-Lapu last Wednesday.

The game was a normal fare, with Barangay Leon Garcia leading comfortably going into the fourth quarter with a score of 49-44.

BARANGAYS Leon Garcia and San Antonio were declared winners in yesterday’s Tok-Hang Basketball Tournament. The first game, held at Barangay Paciano Bangoy covered court, was between Barangay San Antonio and Barangay Paciano Bangoy. Paciano Bangoy, having a home advantage, was a favorite among the crowd and was expected to win the game.

Unfortunately, San Antonio took control of the game leading by a whopping 43 points at 76-33.

Instatech Volleyball enters semi-finals

FOUR volleyball teams are set to compete in the volleyball semi-finals of the Instatech Inter-Hospital Basketball & Volleyball Tournament this coming May 25 at the Ateneo de Davao University Matina Campus.

The following teams are: Southern Philippines Medical Center – Tamaraws; Davao Regional Hospital – Heat; Soccsksargen County Hospital - Lady Spartans; and the Davao Mediquest Hospital Incorporated - Cowgirls.

The first game will be played between the Heats and the Lady Spartans, while in the second game will be between the Tamaraws and the Cowgirls.

Yamyamin, Alba top Loyalty Cup

JOEL Yamyamin and Carloz Alba came out on top of the golfers who played in Class - A for the 1st Loyalty Cup last May 18 at the Apo Golf & Country Club.

The tournament was played using the Modified Stableford scoring system, where Yamyamin garnerd 37 points to be crowned Gross Champion and Alba scored 42 to take the title of Net Champion.

Denden de Castro scored 29 to become Gross 1st Runner-Up and Al Rey Ceniza made 36 to become Net 1st Runner-Up. Andrew Bautista garnered 27 and Apo Luna had 34 to become Gross 2nd Runner-Up and Net 2nd Runner-Up respectively.

Four games today for Tok-Hang tournament

THE First Tok-Hang Cup Basketball Tournament continues today with four games to be played.

Barangay W. Aquino 1 will kick off the day's game against Barangay Lapu-Lapu from 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Right after, from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., Barangay Leon Garcia faces off against Barangay Agdao Proper. Both of the games in the morning will be played at the Barangay Lapu-Lapu covered court.

The tournament will head to Barangay 22-C's covered court in the afternoon for the two other games to be played.

Medvil-Davao needs draw vs Dipolog

THE Medvil Football Club of Davao City posted one win and one loss to place second in Group B of the ongoing Philippine Football Federation-Suzuki Cup Under-23 National Cup at the Perdices Memorial Coliseum in Dumaguete City as of Tuesday.

Medvil-Davao bowed to defending champion Ceres-Negros Occidental Football Association (Nofa), 0-5, in the group eliminations late Monday.

Medvil-Davao head coach Ramonito "Lalas" Carreon, in a text message to Sun.Star Davao on Tuesday, said: "Sorry Davao, we lost."

Brgy. 23-C defeated in back-to-back games

THE two teams of Barangay 23-C were brought to their knees by the teams of Barangay 26-C and Barangay 20-B during the Tok-Hang Cup basketball tournament on Tuesday at the Mini Forest Gym in Barangay 23-C.

In the first game, the Christian team of Barangay 23-C went against Barangay 26. Despite the home advantage, the hosts were defeated by Barangay 26, which emerged victorious with a whopping 32 point lead at 44-76.

3 games for Tok-Hang tourney today

THREE games are scheduled to be played today, Wednesday, for the First Tok-Hang Cup Basketball Tournament.

In the morning, the first game will be between Barangay San Antonio and Barangay Paciano Bangoy. In the second game, Barangay Lapu-Lapu will face off against Barangay Leon Garcia. Both games will be played at Barangay Paciano Bangoy covered court.

In the afternoon, the game will be played at Barangay 31-D covered court with Barangay 31-C taking the court against Barangay 27-C.

Steven Bomedian and Joel Pamaran combined their efforts to garner 475 points and become this week's champion of the Sunday Bowlers Club's weekly Dalawahan Bowling tour. Games were played at the Fair Lanes Bowling Center along F. Torres Street.

Tallying just three less than the champions, Eric Booc and Dennis Discallar scored 472 to land second place.

In third place was the pair of Danny Bonhoc and Berting Gorgonio with a total score of 463.

Cash prizes were awarded to the winners of the games.

CHDCH, RLMC post wins; volleyball goes into semis

The Community Health & Development Cooperative Hospital (CHDCH) Chimeras and Ricardo Limso Medial Center (RLMC) Alexian Aces won in their Instatech Inter-Hosptial Basketball tournament games held last May 18 at the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) Matina Campus, while the volleyball teams played the last round of elimination games.

In Bracket B of the basketball tourney, CHDCH Chimeras overpowered the Davao Mediquest Hospital Incorporated (DMHI) Cowboys with a 14 point lead at 74-60.

Davao City riders Alfred Panday, 21, and Efren John Maniyog, 21, just got back from their daily preparations for the upcoming Philippine National Games Cycling events to be held at the Amoranto Velodrome in Quezon City from May 27-28.

The two started riding their bicycles at an early age. Alfred began when he was nine years old, while Efren started when he was 13 years old.

Davao City to honor athletes

IN RECOGNITION of the efforts and success of Davao City's athletes, the City Sports Development Division (CSDD) will be conducting the 2nd Athletes Recognition on June.

The date and venue of the event are still to be confirmed, but CSDD head Pochollo Elegino said the event might be held after Mayor Duterte's State of the City Address and they are eyeing the Ritz Hotel as the venue of the event.

The event will recognize Dabawenyo athletes who garnered gold, silver, and bronze medals in various competitions from April 2011 to December 2012.
