Iloilo girds up for int’l fishing tilt

INTERNATIONAL and local long line fishing enthusiasts will vie in the 1st Iloilo International Fishing Competition from May 18 to 19, 2013 along the Iloilo and Guimaras Strait.

Department of Tourism Regional Director Helen Catalbas said the tournament, which will start and end at the Anhawan Beach Resort in Oton, Iloilo, is expected to bring in tourists to witness the international event and see the marine resources and tourism potentials of southern Iloilo.

ALL roads led to the Iloilo Provincial Capitol last April 20 as around 500 cyclists gathered at the Freedom Ride for a human trafficking-free Philippines.

Dubbed as one of the biggest and broadest bike tour ever held in Panay, the campaign mobilized cyclists, students, non-government organizations (NGOs), artists, sports and lifestyle enthusiasts, government officials and even participants coming from Manila and nearby provinces like Aklan.

TWO softball teams from Iloilo province will represent the country in the upcoming Asia-Pacific Series to be held June 8 to July 8 in Clark Field, Pampanga.

ILOILO CITY -- Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and city lone district Representative Jerry P. Treñas will lead the grand take off and start of the sailboat race on Sunday morning, February 17, along the 23.8 kilometer race course of the Iloilo Strait.

Participated by more than 60 sail boats in category A and B, the Iloilo Paraw Regatta is considered as the biggest and grandest sail boat race in the whole Southeast Asia in terms of participation.
