Heart failure

TWO days from now at around 8 p.m., we will know exactly how Gilas Pilipinas will fare against Croatia in the Fiba World Cup in Spain.

Mayor Monico and the country's only MVP will be there to witness our players in flesh while the rest of the basketball-crazy country will be glued to the boob tubes.

For us here who are expecting a miracle for the PHL team to win at least one game probably against Senegal, just be prepared not to indulge too much while watching.

"Please be careful with my heart" may be the longest show in a TV network

but for you, just take short glimpses in that glaring box especially when the lead ballooned against our "ka-puso" team.

We thank all the support given to this special squad but being realistic that no Philippine basketball team has reached the semifinal of a World Cup or in the Olympics is something to ponder about.

You may not remember Carlos Loyzaga and his bunch who gave the Philippines a third place finish in Brazil way back in 1954(?). Or think of Robert Jaworski and Freddie Webb in the 1972 Olympics in Munich.

Those two national teams were the closest we could send (or being qualified) to world meets. It was only 42 years ago since Jawo and company played in Germany where terrorists killed Israelis in the athletes’ village.

Ten Olympic Games have passed and we never had a chance to pass the qualifying stage. Now, we are here, all out and all "Puso" for Gilas to survive and succeed.

Let us pray and wait for the results. After all, Edsa Revolution was never in the Filipinos' minds until Ninoy, the father of PNoy, was shot dead. The last words he might have heard were "pusila, pusila.”

Ours today, are "puso, puso, puso".

Miracle happens when you least expect it.
