BSP shows economic growth in Western Visayas-A A +A

BANKO Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) reported that as of June 2012, Western Visayas have a total deposit liability of P143.6 billion and a P37.5 billion in net loan portfolio in commercial and universal banks.
BSP deputy director Fernando Silvoza, while in Iloilo City recently, said Visayas showed an 8.2 percent positive economic growth which is higher than the national average of 6.8 percent.
In the net loan portfolio of Western Visayas, Negros Occidental had the highest amount of loans at P19.2 billion, followed by Iloilo (P14.7 billion), Capiz (P1.7 billion), Aklan (P1.5 billion), Antique (P197 million), and Guimaras (P18 million).
The BSP report also showed that Iloilo has more bank deposit liabilities at P60.6 billion, followed by Negros Occidental (P60 billion), Aklan (P13.7 billion), Capiz (P9 billion), Antique (P144 million), and Guimaras (P37 million).
There are 9,486 commercial banks in Visayas with Iloilo having the highest number of bank branches (86 percent) and head offices (31 percent) in Western Visayas.
Negros Occidental has most of the commercial and universal banks, while among the types of banks in Iloilo are thrift, rural, and cooperative banks.
