Cops told to use force vs criminals

ILOILO City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas is supporting the Cuevas policy of using force if necessary in subduing criminals preying on hapless residents in the city.

A rash of "akyat-bahay" and "bukas-kotse" incidents had been going on in several areas in the city. Treñas said there exists necessary and sufficient police action to subdue the crime perpetrators.

Western Visayas police director Isagani Cuevas has issued instructions to all police units not to hesitate in using force if necessary against criminals who are caught while in the act of perpetrating a crime against property and persons.

Treñas said he has already directed City Police Director Melvin Mongcal to follow and execute the Cuevas policy and coordinate with all city police station commanders to guide them and their men on what to do and expect in times of a criminal act.

The city chief executive also directed the police to coordinate with security guards of establishments posted within the area, including the services of barangay tanods to help in crime prevention and control.

Treñas said police visibility is very much needed in areas prone to criminal acts and police auxiliaries are already instructed to augment police visibility.

The latest basag-kotse incident was conducted early this week on a vehicle parked infront of an appliance store at Tanza-Baluarte in Iloilo City.

Perpetrators were able to carry out an undetermined amount of cash and other valuable items inside the car of a businessman who went inside a store for just a few minutes to buy his house needs.

Treñas said a proper coordination with security guards in the area should be given attention by the assigned policemen so as to effectively facilitate the peace and order condition.

He said the lessons learned in the Glorietta Makati incident should guide the security guards and policemen on the use of proper coordination to deter criminal syndicates.
