DPWH completes Ro-Ro access road

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed the concrete paving works for the 650 lineal meter portion of San Miguel-Sebaste Road, a major road network for the roll on-roll off (Roro) facility from Negros Occidental to Guimaras and then to Iloilo and the rest of Panay Island.

DPWH Guimaras District Engineer Teodoro Castillo said the road portion is funded with P16.771 million and is among the pump-priming projects in Western Visayas earmarked to boost tourism activities of Guimaras island province and provide access for the Roro.

Rehabilitation and improvement of the whole stretch of 16.24 kilometer San Miguel-Sebaste Road, presently categorized as provincial road, will need a funding amount of P265 million, mostly coming from the DPWH’s regular budget.

The island province has three busy seaports, one in the municipality of Buenavista and two in Jordan town. The Sebaste wharf was upgraded and rehabilitated to accommodate pumpboats and Roro vessels from Negros island.

Castillo said they sped up the project implementation and finished it two months ahead of schedule upon instructions of DPWH Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. as part of DPWH's efforts to pump prime the local economy in support with DPWH's economic resiliency plan to generate local job opportunities.
