A CEBU City-based foundation will visit Iloilo City on February 19 for its Visayas-Mindanao Caravan that will select outstanding individuals and institutions for its social development and heritage awards program.

The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (Rafi) will open the nominations for the Rafi Triennial Awards 5th Laureate to Ilonggos, said Eugene Jamerlan of the Iloilo Heritage Council.

The Rafi team headed by Doctor Jocelyn Gerra will hold a short program to call for nominees at the Central Philippine University (CPU) Media Center, Jamerlan noted.

The nominations can also be submitted to the Rafi office in Cebu City or at the CPU outreach center until July 16, 2010.

The Rafi Triennial Awards is conducted every three years. It is a way of acknowledging the “unsung heroes” of the country, said Jamerlan.

In 2007, awardees from Western Visayas were Wilfredo Homicillada of the Process Foundation and Nanay Cubing of central Panay.

Both Ilonggo awardees are considered icons of heritage programs in the Visayas and Mindanao region. (Lydia C. Pendon)
