Iloilo City tricycle fare up by P1

TRICYLE passengers will have to pay an additional P1 from the current fare after the Iloilo City Council approved an ordinance amending Section 4 of Regulation Ordinance 2005-183.

Proponent Councilor RLeone Gerochi said more than 3,000 tricycle units with franchise from the local government will benefit from the fare increase from P6.50 to P7.50 fixed rate.

The amendments for fare increase will be implemented only after the ordinance is duly published in a newspaper of general circulation in Iloilo City, Gerochi said.

Gerochi added the fare increase will help drivers, who claimed the old fare rate is not enough to feed their families, meet their basic daily needs and support the education of their children.

Earlier, the National Government, through the Pantawid Pasada program, gave P150 as cash aid assistance to registered drivers, who are also owners of tricycles in the city. (Lydia C. Pendon)
