ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has reiterated his stand on the ongoing row between the board of directors and management of the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD).
The city mayor said he is very much open to discussion leading to resolution of disagreement at the MIWD and advocates a peaceful way to realize the sustainable and sufficient water supply in the city.
Likewise, Mabilog endorsed a letter from Local Waterworks Utilities Administration (LWUA) acting chairman Ephyro Luis Amatong to the city legal office relative to the appointment by LWUA of a new acting Board of Trustees composed of five LWUA officials based in Metro Manila.
Mabilog said the LWUA letter proposed resolutions to the ongoing disagreement at the MIWD with a three board of directors appointed by the city mayor and two to be appointed by the Iloilo provincial governor.
A LWUA representative who visited the city mayor's office on Wednesday also assured the rehabilitation of MIWD water lines to the water consumers.
Mabilog said he has filed a case against LWUA regarding the appointing authority of the city mayor of members of the MIWD board of directors.
LWUA said the case can be a proper forum to re-validate MIWD and LWUA's findings regarding the 75-25 ratio as basis for determining the proper appointing authority.
The MIWD management maintained that the city mayor of Iloilo is no longer the appointing authority since the city has no longer at least 75 percent of the total active service connections of MIWD.
Amatong said they hope to expedite the resolution of the instant case by suggesting that the Court appoints a commission composed of representatives from LWUA, city of Iloilo and province to validate the existing records and documents of active service connections to determine the 75-25 ratio.
LWUA also suggested old board chair Dr. Danilo Encarnacion and board Secretary lawyer Honorato Sayno to join the LWUA-appointed interim board of directors to ensure transparency in the functions of MIWD.
