SEVEN communities populated by 1,653 indigenous peoples, especially the Atis in 409 households in the provinces of Guimaras and Iloilo, are recipients of the integrated development program for indigenous peoples of a non-government organization based in Iloilo City.
Zinnia Teruel, trustee of the Taytay sa Kauswagan Inc. (TSK), said the livelihood assistance program is now on its fifth year of implementation in giving hope and livelihood to the marginal people.
TSK helped in organizing the seven indigenous people organizations and helping them cope with everyday life through grant of community development projects.
The bulk of Ati people numbering about 740 residents are in sitio Nagpana, Barangay Lipata in Barotac Viejo, Iloilo, and engaged in nito handicrafts, organic agriculture, Botika sa Sitio and goat and chicken raising.
Other Ati communities and recipients of TSK projects are the 150 Ati residents in sitio Bugnay, Barangay Camiros in Anilao town.
The residents were given a water system, electrification, hog raising, clean and green projects, and a tribal hall.
Barangay Mostro in Anilao has 115 Ati people who are engaged in a water system, hog raising and aquaculture project.
Sitio Balagon in Barangay Badiang, Anilao, hosts 96 Atis and are engaged in a water system, chicken dispersal, fishing boat and sanitary toilet.
