City plans to buy 4 e-jeeps
Wednesday, January 4, 2012
THE Iloilo City Government is planning to buy this year an initial of four units of electronic jeepneys (e-jeeps) to be used by public school children and senior citizens.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said that the 10 units of e-jeeps donated by businessman Rommel Ynion has no Deed of Donation yet and cannot be registered with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for having no original official receipt from the supplier.

The vehicles already bear the painting of Mabilog’s face in the unit’s body when donated last year.
“What we were furnished from the donor are xerox copies of documents which the LTO does not honor for registration. There is no insurance for the units and no third party liability,” Mabilog said.
He reiterated that it is unsafe for the children and senior citizens to continue using the donated electronic jeepneys because these are not registered.
Mabilog said he is willing to return the units to the donor if asked, since the city cannot anymore use the donated vehicles without proper registration and insurance.
Ynion reportedly donated the jeepney units with machine copies of purchase documents showing some P600,000 cost per unit.
Mabilog said the same type of jeepneys can be bought at P250,000 to P300,000 per unit.
