Kasadyahan Festival gathers 9 competing, 4 non-competing groups

NINE competing groups will vie for honors in the Kasadyahan competition slated January 21 this year, while four other groups from the provinces will present their dance prowess to add color to the Dinagyang Festival.

The nine competing groups are: El Cinco de Noviembre and Kansilay all from Negros Occidental; Sinadya sa Halaran of Roxas City, Capiz; Salakayan of Miagao and Montogawe of Mina, all in Iloilo province, Ma5ragtas of West Visayas State University, Tiringbanay sa Binirayan of Antique province and Sinulog and Palayag of Guimaras province.

The four exhibition groups are the Masskara Festival of Bacolod City, Ati-Atihan of Aklan, Kahilwayan Festival of Sta. Barbara, Iloilo and St. Therese College in this city.

Dr. Eden Deriada, chair of the Kasadyahan event, said the festival is expected to gather the best festivals in Western Visayas to showcase their best dancing prowess to the best mardi gras festival in central Philippines.

Meanwhile, Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Mar Roxas will keynote the Kasadyahan Festival on January 21.

City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said United States Ambassador Harry Thomas and South Africa Ambassador Agnes Nyamande Pitso will grace the Dinagyang Ati-atihan Festival on January 22. Ilonggo Senator Franklin M. Drilon will deliver the keynote address during that day.

Mabilog has also reserved seats at the Freedom Grandstand for the four European Ambassadors to see the Kasadyahan Festival on January 21. The Ambassadors were invited to grace the 2nd International Film Festival slated on January 19-22 in this city.

The film festival is a special event of the Dinagyang Festival and initiated by the Sineng Pambansa (National Cinema) of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) in partnership with the City Government.

French Ambassador Thierry Borja de Mozota, Italian Ambassador Loca Fornari, Czech Republic Ambassador Joseph Rychtar and Greek Ambassador George Chrysostomos Nikolaidis will visit the city as guests of the film fest.
